ARCHITECTURE
The Concept for the Main house is similar to the one of the Workers house where we wanted to wedge the living spaces between natural ground and a large green roof.

The location of the house is along one of the plains of Witklipfontein but hidden and protected behind a few layers of trees and shrubs as not to be in plein sight of the game animals coming to the main waterhole.
The house is perfectly oriented to the North with the living areas enjoying a West sundowner view and the sleeping areas a sun rising East View.

The house is approached from the South side comming down the mountain. The entrance of the house orrucs in between two sloping green roofs held by strong stone walls. One goes down into the house like going below the ground.

One enters the house trough a large wooden pivot door into a pivotal entrance hall separating the living areas from the sleeping quarters.

The living areas are organised in an open plan manner around a central fire place. Large fully openable windows create an almost virtual frontier between the inside of the house and the outside nature.

A large covered patio or stoop provides an external extention of the living spaces at the same time as being an eyebrow protecting the house from the low western sun.

Dug deep in the middle of the green roof wedge is the 5 metre tall Dome where one can relax in a cool environment during the hot summer days.
The Sleeping rooms are accessed via the Library passage where one can choose a book and read in a long South facing bay window.
The two children bedrooms have high ceilings and a mezzanine for extra friends to sleep over. The main bedroom opens onto a secluded shaded area of bush with long North Eastern views.
